Just as you should have discussed during your bushfire planning, it is important to outline roles and responsibilities when deciding what to take. When preparing your Emergency Kit and taking the time to list other essential items, you can assign every household member particular responsibilities that will work for them.

Even the kids can play a role!
If you have children at home, there might be useful things they can do to help with getting bushfire-ready and putting your Bushfire Plan into action:
- Adding their own important items to the household Emergency Kit ahead of time
- Being ready to grab their essentials when it’s time to leave
- Any small, helpful jobs that can safely be done around the house (eg. preparing items for pets, grabbing a few days’ worth of clothes).
Having clear roles helps reduce panic
Assigning clear roles and responsibilities can help all members of the household to:
- Stay calm and in control
- Feel purposeful rather than lost or in the way
- Save crucial time when it really matters
- Be in the right place, ready to go when it's time to leave.
